Brooklyn Movement Center, Central Brooklyn Food Coop

Mark Winston Griffith is a community organizer, journalist and educator. He is the
founding Executive Director of the Brooklyn Movement Center (BMC), a Black-led
community organizing group based in Black Central Brooklyn, and was founding
organizer of the Central Brooklyn Food Coop. BMC builds campaigns around police
accountability, tenant rights, food sovereignty and environmental justice. BMC also
incubates the Central Brooklyn Food Coop and Brooklyn Deep, a citizen journalism
platform.

Mark has served on the faculty of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and the
CUNY Center for Labor and Community Studies, and is a Castanea food justice
fellow. In addition to the Food Coop, he serves on the boards of the National Black
Food and Justice Alliance, the New York City Environmental Justice Alliance, the
Cooperative Economics Alliance of New York City, Communities United for Police
Reform, the Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union, Free Speech TV and The
City news site. His reporting has appeared in the Nation, the New York Times, NPR
and other outlets.
