American Farmland Trust
New York Policy Manager
As New York Policy Manager for American Farmland Trust, Samantha conducts research on, builds coalitions around, and advocates directly for public policies and programs at all levels of government that keep land in farming and keep farmers on the land in New York. Samantha leads the Alliance for New York’s Farmland, a coalition advocating for farmland protection and farmland access for our next generation of farmers, and the New York Grown Food for New York Kids Coalition, a diverse coalition advocating for Farm to school programs. Samantha also plans and leads trainings and webinars for local government officials and planners across New York on how to design local laws to protect farmland and support farm viability. Samantha leads AFT’s climate work in New York, offering technical assistance to municipalities on how to promote renewable energy development while protecting productive farmland, and advocating for programs and policies that help farmers mitigate climate change—such as those that help them adopt climate smart farming practices. Samantha holds a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Drama from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU, and a Masters in Food Systems from New York University.
